Participating in the surveys that make the evening news such as:

• Collecting information from retailers on the amount of retail trade
• Determining the number of construction starts for this month
• Finding how much sales have risen in electronic stores by participating in the annual retail trade survey
• Collecting data on the amount of damages for which insurance companies are reimbursing the consumers
• Developing data on various types of business establishments such as the number of video rental stores established
• Gathering foreign trade statistics such as U.S. trade with other countries, import and export data
• Digging for data on mining
• Knowing how many breweries there are in the U.S.

Their background includes 15 semester/22 quarter hours in mathematics and statistics in courses plus 9 semester hours in social science, business, or related classes.
